On Wednesday, September 7th, the Elim Arrival had the privilege of joining Rising Sun Church of Christ for their annual kickoff in Pleasant Hill, Iowa.
This is a church with a history that dates far back and has grown into a very beautiful congregation of people.
When we arrived we were blown away by their beautiful sanctuary and place of worship. Although this is obviously not the most important part of a church, it was still a great experience to lead people in worship in such a place.
The theme of the night was “Encounter.” How often do we take time out of our day to encounter Jesus? In the Word of God, we see so many different encounters with God and people. A lot of those times the encounter is not with God Himself and people, but rather with God’s people in community coming together to encounter Him in worship.
Something that I think a lot of us Christians can relate to here in America is that we do not take out a lot of time to encounter God. We are a people so dependent on sight and have such a difficultly loving the God that we cannot see. We often allow our busy schedule to be an excuse when really it is that we may see time with God as inefficient or ineffective.
This is a true struggle and something that is to not be taken lightly. We should also not condemn ourselves for it but take a step of faith and bring this true heart of ours to God. It will take time, consistency, faith, and God’s intervention.
Let us remember Hebrews 11:6, “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” Go and encounter God every day, in faith, knowing He is a rewarder of faith and those who seek Him with all their heart will surely find Him.
